I don't understand...I thought lines related to 800 lines, or 1200 lines, or 3500 lines...something like that....what do your numbers represent?

maybe something a bit more realistic and.. er.. honest would be appreciated.
i found the following info at this website: http://www.8mm.filmshooting.com/filming/page5.php
"Regular VHS cameras have about 250 lines of horizontal resolution.
Super VHS cameras have about 450 lines of horizontal resolution (a 60% better picture than with regular vhs.)
Mini Digital Video cameras have about 525 lines of resolution (another 60% better picture than with Super vhs)
SUPER 8 motion picture film has about 1315 lines of resolution! Over TWICE the amount of digital video! "

John,
That may have been wry humor, but let's stick to the facts. A lot of unsophisticated S8 fans will wander onboard here, & comments like yours' become sheer disinformation, misinformation (or just confusing as hell). A little discretion amidst the enthusiasm would be cool too.

Hey Guys,
The number of definition lines of a film format is conditioned basically by the quality of the film material that we use. (Supposing that we use high power resolution lenses)
If the super 8 frame dimensions are: 5,69 mm x 4,22 mm
Then:
Kodachrome offers about 100 lines for mm (max.) of resolution, then it will give for super 8 frame 569 lines per mm of horizontal resolution.
Kodak Plus - x and Tri - x offers about 125 lines per mm (max) of resolution, then it will give for super 8 frame around 711 lines per mm of horizontal resolution.
Kodak Ektachrome 125 T about 80 lines for mm (max) of resolution, then it will give for super 8 frame around 455 lines per mm of horizontal resolution.
I believe that 1315 lines for mm of horizontal resolution is too much, unless we use a film material who offers about 231 l?nes for mm of resolution.
For more information you can visit the official page of Kodak, in the section of motion picture films.
Carlos.

Say, Corey. Were you in any way offended
by my initial response to your resolution question.
Wry humor may be welcomed.
Who knows.
I figured my post would not be the last on the topic.
As a brain surgeon once said
in a rough time during a critical operation poceedure:
-- "Lighten up folks, this isn't Super 8 Filmmaking."
